Social Sciences (Environmental Humanities, Sustainable Agriculture)
Senior Lecturer

Dr Todd Jared LeVasseur examines and studies the interface of cultural narratives and identities, with a specific focus on those in the domain labelled religion, and how these both shape and are shaped by the natural, “more-than-human” world within globalised political ecologies and the onset of climate triage. His work is thoroughly interdisciplinary, while being comparative and historical in scope and method. Dr LeVasseur utilises a variety of social scientific and humanistic research methods to engage the overarching research question that guides his scholarly path: how can the human animal, from individual to global scales, learn to actively generate just, regenerative, resilient, and sustainable behaviours and lifeways as humans move further into the Anthropocene, if at all?

Dr LeVasseur has written numerous books, journal articles, book chapters, and encyclopaedia entries on a wide variety of environmental humanities topics, while using a variety of research methods. His most recent book in 2021 titled Climate Change, Religion, and Our Bodily Future utilises new materialisms, queer theory, religion and nature theory, and performance studies to analyse how climate change will likely impact the bodily enactment of religions in ecologies-of-alive places. His current research investigates perceptions of climate change and tourism in Southeast Asia, focusing specifically on action sports and new age groups, and perceptions of those in the host communities where they go to engage in such activities.
