Venue: Ngee Ann Kongsi Auditorium @ L2, Education Resource Centre
Join us for a dialogue between President of Yale-NUS College, Pericles Lewis, and President of Pomona College, David Oxtoby, as they discuss important issues facing liberal arts institutions. The dialogue will be moderated by Yale-NUS Visiting Professor of Science, Bryan Penprase, and will tackle some of the most vital questions facing both the two-year-old Yale-NUS College and 127-year-old Pomona College. There will be ample time for questions and comments from the audience.
Some of the issues addressed include:
- What are the reasons for countries like Singapore, China and India to develop universities and colleges with a liberal arts curriculum?
- How can these models of education be responsive to the needs of their societies to solve complex interdisciplinary problems facing the world in 2014?
- What can Yale-NUS learn from the established institutions in Asia and North America?
- What can Pomona College learn from a start-up institution like Yale-NUS College?
- And how can both institutions work together to help create new models of higher education for students that will fully train them for the complex realities they will face in their futures?
* Light refreshments will be served at 5.30pm at L1 of the Education Resource Centre.
