Congratulations to Genessa Chew Sze Yin, Robin Louis Buxton-Leow, and Liaw Zhou Yi, Julia for winning a Merit prize for their submission to the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy Case Writing Competition 2022/23.

Their paper titled Towards a City in Nature: Bolstering Environmental Impact Assessments in Singapore supervised by Professor Preston, Wong Teng Hin was one of the five winning entries in this year’s competition, winning the merit prize for their work.

The LKYSPP CASE WRITING COMPETITION aims to provide NUS students with the opportunity to showcase their ability to apply public policy knowledge through the writing of public policy case study concerning contemporary issues in Asia.

The paper aims to chart an overview of the current framework for environmental impact assessments (EIAs) in Singapore. It situates the EIA regime in Singapore within the broader global context, introduces the various components and stages of the EIA process in Singapore, identifies gaps in Singapore’s current EIA practices, and examines the existing solutions implemented by the government to address these challenges; and finally offers policy options with a comparative analysis to Hong Kong’s model.
