Yale-NUS College joins research which finds that secondary forests are able to sequester carbon at a faster rate, Lianhe Zaobao, 12 February 2016

The large-scale international collaboration amongst researchers found that carbon uptake is surprisingly fast in young forests. Yale-NUS College Assistant Professor of Science, Michiel van Breugel was part of the research team, which found that after 20 years, these forests have recovered 122 tons of biomass per ha. This corresponds to an uptake of 3.05 ton carbon per ha per year, which is more than 10 times the uptake rate of old-growth forests.
