Trump attends Davos meetings, Channel 8 News, 2 February 2018

Channel 8’s current affairs programme Focus, discussed US President Trump’s recent attendance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland and what it meant for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Dean of International & Professional Experience and Senior Lecturer of Social Sciences (Sociology and Political Science) Trisha Craig noted that President Trump has noticed how the TPP continued moving forward, despite the US’ decision to pull out of the partnership. While the US might be experiencing some fear of missing out, it is unlikely to change its position on the TPP in the near future. Dr Craig noted that the US has its mid-term elections coming up at the end of the year and part of President Trump’s appeal and campaign rhetoric is the promise to remove the US from these international trade deals.
