Students’ petition to use sustainable oil draws 8,000 signatures, The New Paper, 22 Feb 2018

The New Paper carried an article on the efforts by two students, Regina Vanda from Yale-NUS College (Class of 2021) and Gauri Shukla from United World College Southeast Asia (UWCSEA) to get food companies to use environmentally-friendly oil. The duo, who met last year through the non-governmental organisation People’s Movement to Stop Haze (PM.Haze), approached more than 20 local food companies and identified Old Chang Kee and Polar Puffs & Cakes as possibly not using Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)-certified cooking oil. They then launched an online petition last year, which garnered 8,000 signatures within four months. Both companies have since released statements certifying their use of healthy, sustainable oils in their cooking.
