Social trust in times of crisis, The Straits Times, 3 April 2020

The Straits Times carried a commentary by Yale-NUS Associate Dean of Faculty (Curriculum) and Associate Professor of Social Sciences (Politics) Nomi Lazar on social trust, noting that a public health emergency would test social trust. The piece explained that without social trust, people anticipate bad behaviour in others and respond defensively, such as stockpiling. Assoc Prof Lazar opined that all governments face an opportunity to engage and build trust with and among citizens in this momentous juncture in tackling COVID-19.
