RI democracy at lowest point: Scholars, The Jakarta Post, 25 September 2019

The Jakarta Post, Indonesia’s premier English daily newspaper, carried an article analysing Indonesia’s democracy. The article highlighted Assistant Professor of Social Sciences (Political Science) Risa J Toha’s research on election violence in Indonesia. Asst Prof Toha’s findings were that despite recent events, election violence in Indonesia has been relatively rare. However, her research has found that election violence tends to be higher in restive provinces, such as Papua and Aceh, and in areas with a long history of ethnocommunal violence, such as Kalimantan and Maluku.
