Philosophy in the wake of Empire pt. 1: The white way to think, ABC Radio National, 3 November 2019

ABC launched a five-part broadcast programme on how colonisation and empire-building has shaped Western philosophy. In the first part of this series, the programme examined racism and the legacy of Immanuel Kant (who believed the non-white races were incapable of philosophical reflection). The programme interviewed Bryan W Van Norden, Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple Professor at Yale-NUS College, and another philosopher about this subject.

Listen to Prof Van Norden’s comments from 1:50 to 9:11 and 13:20 to 27:05.
