“India Is Our Brother, China Is Our Friend”: Navigating Great Power Rivalry in Southern Asia, War on the Rocks, 22 September 2017

War on the Rocks carried an opinion piece jointly written by Yale-NUS Assistant Professor of Social Sciences (Political Science) Rohan Mukherjee and Darren J. Lim, a lecturer at the Australian National University. The piece examined the Sino-Indian power rivalry and its implications on smaller countries in the region. The article is part of the web publication’s series called “Southern (Dis)Comfort,” which seeks to unpack the dynamics of intensifying competition in Southern Asia, principally between China, India, Pakistan, and the United States. In this article, the authors suggested the strategic options that small states could take to cope with the Sino-Indian competition, and provided an overview of the current situation as well as what could possibly happen in the near future.

War on the Rocks is a web-based publication on war and foreign policy, and features articles and podcasts by contributors including former diplomats, scholars and intelligence professionals.
