In new textbook, the story of Singapore begins 500 years earlier, New York Times, 11 May 2014

Yale-NUS history professor Derek Heng spoke about the revisions to the history syllabus that expands on the story of Singapore’s birth. The changes are largely due to the findings from major archaeological excavations across Southeast Asia, including a dozen in Singapore over the past 30 years. Professor Heng called the artifacts “tactile, visual ways to look at the past and reposition Singapore in history”.
