Commentary: Is private higher education in Singapore a ‘second chance’ option?, Channel NewsAsia, 17 September 2017

Postdoctoral Fellow of Social Sciences (Urban Studies and Human Geography) Cheng Yi’En wrote a commentary for Channel NewsAsia on private higher education in Singapore. He noted that private degree students not only tended to be viewed in a lesser light compared to their public university counterparts, they were also not doing as well in the graduate job market. The perception that a private degree education was a “second chance” could be due to lack of information, stereotypes and old mindsets about the merits of studying at a public university.
