China’s real reasons for enforcing North Korea sanctions: Trump, Party Congress, CNBC, 3 October 2017

CNBC carried an article which discusses China’s real reasons for enforcing sanctions on North Korea, suggesting that it could only be a temporary measure as China looks at improving relations with the United States. The article featured comments from Assistant Professor of Social Sciences (Political Science) Chin-Hao Huang, whose research interest is in the Sino-American political relationship. The article suggests that China’s compliance with the sanctions is related to the Chinese Communist Party’s upcoming Congress, which decides future leadership. Dr Huang noted that China will be looking for continued stability in its domestic and international affairs in the lead up to and after the Congress.
