A Frame In Time, CNA, 12 April 2020

CNA aired a 3-part docudrama titled ‘A Frame in Time’, which uses famous paintings by local artists as frames for understanding historical developments in Singapore. The series explores life in Singapore between colonialism and self-governance, merger and separation and beyond. Yale-NUS President and Professor of Humanities (History) Tan Tai Yong and Professor of Social Sciences (Urban Studies) Chua Beng Huat were interviewed in Episode 1, which explored the evolution of the hawker scene against the backdrop of industrialisation and Episode 2, on the role of language, particularly the Malay language, as an influence in the development of the nation and its identity. President Tan was also interviewed in Episode 3 on industry development, labour market and life during the 1960s and 1970s.
