5 things I did that led me to an internship at Google, Tech in Asia, 13 Feb 2018

Tech in Asia carried a piece by Valerie Pang (Class of 2017) where she described the things she did that landed her an internship at Google, despite being an environmental studies major, something that did not seem directly relevant. She described how she did nine internships to gain more work experiences, securing most of them through networking events. Valerie also co-founded the SDI Academy and participated in two accelerator/incubator programmmes representing the social enterprise. She also joined 10 hackathons and won four of them, which honed her presentation skills and also spent a year in Silicon Valley as part of the NUS Overseas Colleges (NOC) programme. The self-professed event junkie also went to more than 300 events, which allowed her to learn new things, expand expand her network, and find opportunities. Valerie also noted that pursuing such experiences came with several sacrifices, and cautioned readers to consider what they wanted in the future before determining their own paths. A translated article was also carried in Viet Times.
