More importantly, the highlight of my job is that I get to have fun interacting with the students, while working on their creative projects with them. ” Since joining Yale-NUS College in 2016, my role as a Staging Manager had exposed to me a variety of challenges. From physically starting up the Fabrication Studios (carpentry workshop and maker space), to overseeing the administrative matters such as the risk assessments and work instructions of the studios and all the arts spaces. Albeit difficult, I enjoyed these challenges that develop me professionally. More importantly, the highlight of my job is that I get to have fun interacting with the students, while working on their creative projects with them. I hope to share essential skills with the students through these projects, so that they learn to work independently on their own projects in the future.

Outside of work, I love the beautiful campus and its amazing architecture, and that there’s always a show, talk, or even lunch tag (almost always student-organised) going on – as well as the opportunity to be part of all that! ” I usually tell people that I’ve hardly had any boring days since I began working at Yale-NUS, not when the community is small, but familial and exciting. Aside from semesters flying by, being part of a new college and having the chance to come up with new work initiatives and processes has given me the opportunity to grow and develop both professionally and personally.

One of the things I enjoy most about my job is that it allows me to meet and work with students on a daily basis. The student body’s diversity (in terms of culture, viewpoints and life stories) makes me aware that I have much to learn from them, as well as to share with them. My constant interactions with students also remind me of the purpose behind my work, and that working here is more than just getting a paycheque.

At the College, I’ve had the privilege of learning from colleagues who represent the brightest, warmest and most dedicated professionals that I have worked with. ” The most enjoyable part of working here is the opportunity to contribute to a deeply meaningful mission. “What must a young person learn to lead a responsible life in this century?” That’s what drew me to the College and keeps me energised. There aren’t many roles out there that offer this great mix of providing deep operational experience and ‘big picture’ thinking. At the College, I’ve had the privilege of learning from colleagues who represent the brightest, warmest and most dedicated professionals that I have worked with. If you are keen to be a part of an original, dynamic organisation that aims to have a significant impact on the world, and you aren’t shy about stepping up, Yale-NUS College is the right environment for you.
