Software Developer (1-year Contract)

The Digital Historical Maps of Southeast Asia project is seeking a skilled software developer to design and create a platform to host digitised pre-1900 maps of Southeast Asia.

The project is based at Yale-NUS College Singapore, and is in collaboration with the National Library Singapore, Bodleian Library University of Oxford, Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library Yale University, and Leiden University Libraries.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a part of a team consisting of a Concept / User Experience (UX) designer and a Senior Curator in creating an online platform based on the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF)
  • Work with the Principal Investigator, Co-Investigators and historical subject matter experts in designing and developing this platform
  • Be responsible for coordinating all technical activities, documentation, and the architecture of the MOE-funded SSTRG Digital Historical Maps of Singapore and Southeast Asia Platform
  • Help supervise undergraduate student researchers

Requirements

  • The candidate will have at least a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field; recent graduates with programming skills are welcomed to apply
  • Ability to develop both front-end and back-end technologies and programming languages
  • Skill in modern programming languages and platforms. (such as Python or Java)
  • Skill with HTML5, common JavaScript frameworks (such as JQuery) and CSS frameworks (such as Bootstrap)
  • Knowledge of Web Services and APIs (such as REST API)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
