Mr Tom White teaches Documentary & Photojournalism at Yale-NUS College. Originally from Bradford, West Yorkshire in the north of England, Mr White is currently based in Singapore where he works as a freelance photographer. His photography has been published and exhibited internationally. He is a graduate of Goldsmith’s College in London and The International Centre of Photography in New York.
Since 2007, Mr White has been involved in photography education alongside his freelance career. He has taught at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and at the International Center of Photography in New York City. In addition to his appointment at Yale-NUS College, he is involved with photography workshops at the Objectifs Centre in Singapore.
Mr White had also worked on a variety of programmes with the International Center of Photography’s Community Programs department. He intends to continue to do photography-based social engagement projects as a counterpoint to his documentary, editorial and fine art practice.
Mr White is interested in all aspects of visual literacy and communication with a focus on socially engaged art, journalism, and the relationship between media and society.
As a photojournalist, Mr White’s work has been published across the globe in magazines, newspapers and on websites including The New York Times, The LA Times, TIME Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Buzzfeed News, The Independent UK, Southeast Asia Globe, The Nikkei Asian Review, The South China Morning Post and Esquire Singapore.
