Senior Vice Provost (Academic Affairs), National University of Singapore
Professor Phoon Kok Kwang is the Senior Vice Provost (Academic Affairs) at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and is presently a Distinguished Professor. A graduate of NUS and Cornell University, Prof Phoon is a geotechnical engineer and has been a faculty member in the NUS Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering since 1995. He was the Head of Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering from May 2013 to August 2015. Prof Phoon is regarded as one of the foremost experts in applying statistics and data-driven methods to support decision-making in geotechnical engineering. He is a recipient of numerous awards, including the Norman Medal (2005, 2020), NUS Outstanding Researcher Award (2010), Annual Teaching Excellence Award (ATEA) (2011 and 2012), John Booker Medal (2014), and the Humboldt Research Award (2017). Prof Phoon was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Engineering Singapore in 2012.
