Professor Philip Gorski is a comparative historical sociologist with strong interests in theory and methods, and a focus in modern and early modern Europe. His latest book is American Covenant: A History of Civil Religion From the Puritans to the Present, and his empirical work focuses on topics such as state-formation, nationalism, revolution, economic development and secularisation with particular attention to the interaction of religion and politics. Gorski studies religion and politics in a comparative and historical perspective, with a current focus on religion and populism.
