Dr James Fairburn was educated at the University of Oxford and the University of Southampton. He has held academic positions at the University of Southampton, the University of Sussex and the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He has been a visiting researcher at the Institut d’Analisi Economica in Barcelona and was a researcher at the Institute for Fiscal Studies in London. He was a member of the academic committee and a programme convener for the research network ERSA (Economic Research Southern Africa).
