Need-based Awards

Need-based awards will help ensure that Yale-NUS will always be accessible to talented students from the widest possible backgrounds. The awards are available to all students in Yale-NUS who indicated that they need financial assistance.

Please note that all need-based awards are tenable for 1 year and reapplication each year is necessary.

1. Yale-NUS Need-Based Study Awards

A need-based award from Yale-NUS will consist of two components:

The Need-Based Award is a need-based grant from Yale-NUS. This award may be used to defray the costs of both tuition and Residential College fees. The amount of this award will depend on each student and his/her family's individual financial circumstances.

The Student Self-Help Contribution will be S$1,200 for the 2013-2014 academic year. The Self-Help Contribution is typically met by working on the Yale-NUS campus. Student jobs will be available in academic departments, laboratories, and administrative offices on campus.

How to Apply

Students interested in need-based awards should choose "Yes" when asked if they "intend to apply for need-based scholarships" in the Yale-NUS admissions application or the Common Application. All students who are shortlisted for an interview and who answer this question with "Yes" will be sent a brief application that asks about student and family income, family size, and any additional financial considerations.
